Property Ownership Maps

The Division of Property Assessments (DPA) is responsible for providing a parcel updating service for 42 of the 95 counties in Tennessee. The remaining counties are maintained at the local level in the county property assessor’s office.

The 1996 implementation of the Tennessee Base Mapping Program (TNBMP) gives both state and those counties that maintain their own maps the capability of digitally capturing parcel updates in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. The parcel-based GIS provides a link between the property map and the assessment database giving assessment officials the ability to view and query assessment data in a more accurate and productive manner.

For those counties maintained by the state, DPA GIS Technicians digitally capture parcel splits and joins from the county assessor’s paper maps and apply them to the GIS database.

After completing the parcel updates new paper maps are provided to the county assessor. The assessor uses these maps to begin their next annual cycle of parcel updates.

Counties maintained by this Office are updated on an 18 to 24 months cycle. The goal is to move to a more aggressive updating cycle in the near future.

Black-line copies of property maps and or digital parcel data (shapefiles) is available to the public, private sector and all governmental entities. Both products can be purchased for those counties maintained by this office.

To purchase counties not updated by this office contact the Property Assessor’s Office in that county. Click here for contact information.
