Redistricting
The Office of Local Government (OLG) serves in many capacities with respect to Redistricting in Tennessee. The primary role of OLG is to assist local government officials, specifically Administrators of Elections, with the local Redistricting process. This assistance ranges from general guidance on Redistricting guidelines to technical assistance with Redistricting data maintenance in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment. OLG is also responsible for managing the statewide repository of Redistricting GIS data for Tennessee. This GIS data represents Voting Precincts, County Commission Districts, State House Districts, State Senate Districts, and U.S. House Districts for the entire state.
OLG also serves as Tennessee’s liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau. As liaison, OLG assists in coordinating local government involvement in different Census Bureau initiatives, such as the decennial census.
