Parcel Data Stewardship
As Tennessee’s data steward for GIS parcel data, the Office of Local Government (OLG) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and distribution of the statewide parcel data produced through the Tennessee Base Mapping Program (TNBMP).
Maintenance
OLG provides both mapping and technical services to Local Government Property Assessors throughout the State. This allows OLG to monitor the maintenance process and ensure that the statewide parcel data accurately reflects the cadastral landscape of Tennessee. The mapping services are provided by OLG’s mapping section, which works with approximately 42 of Tennessee’s 95 counties. These mapping services range from GIS data updates to property mapping consultation. For approximately 48 of the remaining 53 counties, OLG provides technical services to assist with the parcel data maintenance being conducted in the County Property Assessor’s office. These services range from GIS software implementations, upgrades, and development to basic technical support.
Distribution
With the increasing utilization of GIS technology, OLG facilitates the distribution of parcel data for nearly all of Tennessee’s 95 counties to Local, State, and Federal Government agencies as well as the general public. For consumers interested in just viewing the parcel data, OLG works with the Office for Information Resources, GIS Services division to make the data available through Tennessee’s centralized GIS mapping portal known as the Tennessee Map (TNMap). For non-governmental entities interested in acquiring parcel data, OLG makes the data available for purchase here.
