About Us
Redistricting
The Office of Local Government (OLG) provides technical assistance to local governments in redistricting efforts and in establishing precincts; maintains county precinct information; and provides mapping services utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. It also serves as Tennessee’s liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau for their Redistricting Data Program. In addition, the office provides assistance to local governments and the legislature as needed.
Parcel Data Stewardship
As Tennessee’s data steward for parcel data, OLG is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and distribution of the statewide parcel GIS data produced through the Tennessee Base Mapping Program. This responsibility is fulfilled by working with local government Property Assessors throughout the state to ensure that data accurately reflects the geographic landscape of Tennessee. With regards to data distribution, OLG works with the Office for Information Resources, GIS Services division to make the parcel data available to government agencies as well as the general public through Tennessee’s centralized GIS mapping portal known as the Tennessee Map (TNMap).
