Legislative Performance Auditor 1

OFFICE
This position is with the Performance Audit Group of the Tennessee Division of State Audit, located within the Office of the Comptroller of the Treasury. The Performance Audit Group evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of state government agencies and programs and publishes reports of its findings with suggested alternatives for legislative and administrative action. Staff of the Performance Audit Group present the published reports to legislative subcommittees in public hearings.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Work individually or in small teams to (1) determine agency or program activities and develop work plans detailing data and analysis necessary to evaluate such activities; (2) collect and thoroughly document data of agencies' performance through interviews, surveys, test of systems and controls, statistical analysis, and reviews of files, records, and documents; (3) compile and analyze data collected and draw conclusions on the efficiency and effectiveness of various agency and program components; and (4) write reports presenting the conclusions of the evaluations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in a social science, government, public administration, business or business administration, economics or other related area; or a bachelor's degree in accounting or government finance and two years' related experience. These qualifications express the minimum standards of education and experience for an applicant for this class. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for consideration.

Knowledge and Abilities: Some knowledge of organization, duties, and objectives of performance audit, and of the methods of conducting surveys and analyses. Ability to deal tactfully with the employees of other state departments and agencies and with co-workers; exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, as evidenced by an interview.
