OFFICE
This position is with the Offices of Education Accountability and Research which is under the direction of the Comptroller of the Treasury. The Office of Education Accountability monitors the performance of Tennessee's elementary and secondary school systems and provides the General Assembly reports on a variety of education topics. The Office of Research conducts research projects on state and local government issues at the request of the Comptroller and the General Assembly.
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBLITIES
Works with more experienced analysts to respond to requests for analysis of complex issues affecting K-12 education, state or local government operations; collects and analyzes data; conducts interviews; develops and administers surveys, and compiles survey results; review files and records; writes detailed reports for requesting officials; responds to requests for information from legislators, the Comptroller of the Treasury, and other officials; monitors legislative committees; prepares fiscal notes on bills affecting local governments and other topics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in sociology, political science, public administration, economics, education policy, or other related field, or a bachelor's degree in one of the same fields with one year of relevant research experience.
The above qualifications express the minimum standards of education and experience required for this classification. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for consideration.
Knowledge and Ability: A basic knowledge of the activities of state and local governments, public administration, legislative process, and general research methods as evidenced by a rating of education and experience.
Ability to deal tactfully with the public, co-workers, and members of the General Assembly, to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, and maintain adequate documentation of work performed.
