OFFICE
This position is with the Tennessee Department of Audit which, under the direction of the Comptroller of the Treasury, is responsible for the audit of state and local government entities. As a post-audit agency, the department, through its component divisions, examines the books and records of an entity and determines the entity's compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations. The department is comparable to an independent public accounting firm in the business sector, because as a legislative organization it is independent of the audited entity.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of an employee of higher classification and generally working in a team, examines the financial records of a state, county or local government or other organization receiving public funds. Performs audits in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards to determine if the financial statements have been prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principals and applicable law. Prepares audit working papers in standard format presenting information relative to the extent of audit tests performed and conclusions reached. Writes audit findings and recommendations. Assists auditors of higher classification in more difficult aspects of auditing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited four- year college or university with a degree in accounting or business administration with a minimum of twenty-four semester hours in accounting.

Knowledge and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of accounting theory and practice and auditing standards and procedures. Ability to deal tactfully with the public and co-workers, exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions and express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly as evidenced by an interview with the appointing authority.

TRAVEL
Travel is required with the percentage varying by the audit division and audit assignment. A substantial percentage of the positions involve travel of approximately fifty percent, generally confined to overnight stays on Monday through Wednesday evenings.
